In January 2012, the Standing Orders were amended to allow Judges, Coroners, Policemen, Lawyers, Forensic scientists, Physicians, Forensic Pathologists and toxicologists to be elected to Membership under the following criteria:

Hold a relevant postgraduate qualification and who have made a notable contribution to Forensic and Legal Medicine through practice, research or training; His experience not less than 15 years. A relevant postgraduate qualification could include: |

Diploma in Medical Jurisprudence (DMJ) (Clin) |

PhD, Or Equivalent in Forensic medical sciences |
 |
MD, Or Equivalent in Forensic medical sciences
|
 |
Diploma in Bioethics (DFMB) |
 |
Master of Forensic Medicine |
 |
Mastership in Medical Jurisprudence (MMJ) |
 |
Bachelor of Law (LLB) |

Affiliating with the association entitles the individual to the full range of academic, educational and other facilities available to full Members. The only distinction is that Affiliates do not have voting rights and are not able to use their affiliation as a designator. |
Affiliation with the IALFS is open to those who:

Are medically qualified and are working in Forensic and Legal Medicine, either full-time or part-time |
 |
Are working in a field that the Board determines is allied to Law or Forensic Sciences. The individual need not be medically qualified but should be registered with an appropriate regulatory body or studying in an allied field. |
